For my paper, the topic I choose to write about is how memories define who we are. I thought that this topic was best showed in episode 7. This is the episode where Echo is on a mission with another man when she sees the news of a suicide at a college on television. Upon seeing this, a sudden a flood of memories come back to her. She is overwhelmed with emotion and decides that she has to go to that college and try to help. I choose this episode because it shows how much these memories affected her. She was a completely different person before she saw the news, but once she did see it, her original personality started to show through. The caring and compassionate side of her personality overcame her and she immediately left. The memories that came to her changed the way she would have otherwise acted without them. Even the memories that aren’t hers that are implanted in her mind change the way she and the other dolls act. When all the dolls memories are wiped after their missions, they don’t have any personalities; they wonder around aimlessly. But once they are given memories and talents for a mission, they take on a whole new persona. These memories change the way they act.
