This time I decided to watch the first episode of Dollhouse. I show turned out to be a lot better than I thought it would be. It didn’t have as much of a sci-fi feel as Firefly, which I liked better. One thing that caught my attention in this was when Boyd and the guy who wipes people’s memories were talking about how they were great humanitarians. They feel that they are helping people out by performing this service. Boyd then goes on to say that even though that’s what they think, there are still plenty of people who don’t agree with what they are doing and would throw them in jail if they ever found out. When he was talking about this, it made me think about all the new advancements in medicine and technology that are being developed now. In the past few years there has been lots of talk about cloning, stem cell research and other things like that. Just like in Dollhouse, some people think that things like that are necessary and will help society, while others are completely against it. Although these issues might not be as extreme as wiping people’s memories, they still have the same moral and ethical dilemmas that are associated with them.
